Project Overview

In this residence, traditional Chinese aesthetics meet modern living spaces, blending simplicity in form with the elegance and depth of Chinese culture. Designed by Shangyuan for a private home in Suzhou Imperial Garden, this project embodies a new approach to Chinese-style living.

The design of a home is the language of life. The purpose of this residence was to create a space that truly belongs to its owner, a sanctuary that reflects their lifestyle and aspirations. Leveraging years of industry expertise, the designer communicates with clarity, understanding the nuanced preferences for both classical Chinese culture and the modern East. At the same time, there is an appreciation for the traditional values of family and home, which breathe life into this environment.

Every aspect of the interior composition carefully balances form and function. With an understated palette and natural tones, the space exudes harmony and simplicity, enhanced by elements such as photography, prints, and minimalist garden-inspired details. Bamboo and pine motifs subtly reference Jiangnan’s cultural heritage, evoking Suzhou’s signature elegance and blending seamlessly with a modern, comfortable lifestyle. The aesthetic achieves the perfect balance—restrained yet expressive, embodying the sophistication that transcends time.

With “poetic elegance and gentle restraint,” this home evokes a sense of refined tranquility. The circular forms blend with square structures, creating visual harmony within the room and throughout the entire layout. Thoughtfully designed bookshelves with semi-transparent glass panels suggest a delicate balance between display and concealment, lending the room an air of timeless repose. This gentle layering of space speaks of quiet refinement, inviting one to retreat from the bustling world while keeping a touch of sophistication.

With carefully chosen materials, such as stone, Italian gray and cloud-gray marble, oak wood finishes, Japanese paper glass, and wallpaper, the design reflects an organic beauty. These natural elements reveal the beauty of their texture, complementing the serene atmosphere of the home. In this house, tranquility becomes a way of life, allowing its inhabitants to indulge in the pure and simple pleasures of everyday living.
