- Operating Area: 170㎡
- Completion Date: May 2018
- Location: Himalayas Art Center, Shanghai
Project Introduction:
Shanghai, a vibrant city teeming with culinary delights, offers both elegance along the Bund and innovation near Jing’an Temple. In this gastronomic haven, Xingyao Hall emerges as an interactive space blending fine dining with design, commissioned by the Xingyao Hall team. It combines a French Michelin culinary academy and café into a modern social venue.
Situated within the iconic Himalayas Art Center designed by renowned architect Arata Isozaki, Xingyao Hall merges the culinary and architectural worlds, enhancing its prestige. The design explores the relationship between space and gastronomy, offering an interplay of “tasting shapes” and “seeing flavors.”
Design Concept:
Inspired by the exquisite desserts served at Xingyao Hall, the café area is envisioned as a “dessert-like” space. Simple geometric shapes unify the design, exuding elegance and modernity.
- Café Bar:
Positioned to the right of the entrance, the café bar features a base of French blue wrapped in brass accents, radiating refined and romantic sophistication. - Seating Area:
Opposite the bar, the banquette area boasts layered brass organic shapes on the walls, evoking the textures and artistry of desserts. A porthole window on the left wall adds intrigue, acting as a decorative “painting” hinting at an equally fascinating world beyond. - Floor Design:
The café floor mimics the appearance of scattered chocolate and hazelnut crumbs, adding a playful and immersive element to the space.
