Project Overview
Last year, the aroma of traditional Chinese herbal tea suddenly surged in popularity, soothing urban life and bringing the slow, calming pace of traditional Chinese living into the dreams of the modern city dweller. For this project, Shangyuan aimed to create a unique Chinese-style space in the heart of Shanghai, a place where Eastern calm and refinement could merge with contemporary design.
This design reinterprets traditional Chinese medicine aesthetics in an entirely new way, carefully balancing form and function. The layout breaks conventional boundaries, reflecting the essence and character of the East in a way that is subtle yet powerful.
Whether for traditional medicine consultations or wellness treatments, this clinic radiates a serene and comforting atmosphere. The wide, open layout diverges from the typical, confined image of medical clinics, replacing it with a bright and orderly environment that speaks of warmth and care. Rich, detailed textures, soft lighting, and warm tones create a soothing ambiance, echoing the depth and precision of traditional Chinese healing methods.
The open ceilings and natural materials used for shelves and tables embody the heritage of traditional medicinal spaces. The transparency of the materials invites natural light to flow freely, enhancing the natural feel and creating a seamless connection to the outdoors. Classic wood materials are chosen for their solid, grounding qualities, exuding timeless charm while showcasing the beauty of traditional craftsmanship under the gentle glow of the lighting.
Through this space, we aimed to harmonize modern aesthetics with the artistry of traditional techniques, transforming it into a serene retreat where Eastern culture meets urban life.
